OLD TOWN HOUSE

This project involved the complete renovation of a 130 year old apartment building into a sophisticated city home for a young family. Located in the Old Town Historic Landmark District and designated as a contributing building, no alteration of the façade of the building was allowed beyond maintenance. The project involved a gut renovation of the building, including the floor structures. The exterior was renovated with masonry repairs, including limestone replacements on the façade and new energy efficient windows on all sides.  The windows on the front were designed to match the original building, as was the new entrance and stairs.  On the back, the exterior wall was partially removed and an addition was constructed to extend the living space.

The interior of the building, originally constructed as a multi-unit apartment house, has been converted into a contemporary single-family residence with open plan. The addition is an exposed steel frame with cedar board infill and ample areas of operable glass.
